Good Grief

pajama_day This music is, i think, what I am aiming at almost anytime I pick up an instrument, at least in spirit. Maybe sonically as well.
Simple, conversational poetry. Emotionally true. Elegant, sparse instrumentation. It is a home-cooked meal. It is an old friend. Thank you, Phil, for gifting us this record.
The Last Dinosaur

The Last Dinosaur Stream-of-conscious confessionals. Beautifully descriptive, painting scenes around you. Like discovering a lost polaroid of a half-forgotten memory from the best summer of your youth. Favorite track: Melissa.

gbelislechi Philip is a very special human and his music is very personal and pleasant. I love this record.

about

dear listener,

during the last week of august 2020 i wrote and recorded a song a day for a week. i decided to use the piano since i don't really know how to play it. i figured it would help me get out of my own way.

these songs are about death, and more specifically, those that death leaves behind. they are memories, wishes, feelings, moments, reflections.

i'm the person singing and playing piano on all of the songs. i also do the drum machines on "dear mom" and "melissa". I also played the electric bass on "dear mom". i think that's the best i ever played the bass, actually. on "carol" i also played the drums and the electric bass.

my friends adrianne lenker, buck meek, adam brisbin and maia friedman stopped by after i wrote "luke" and played all the other instruments live with me in the studio. it was a beautiful experience to share with them.

all the other songs have a little bit of additional instrumentation from aaron roche. i'm not sure what instruments he played, exactly, and didn't feel like it was appropriate to ask. but it sounded so good i mixed his parts in and barely did any editing at all.

it was cathartic to make this record. it unfolded before me without much labor or worry. for that, i am grateful. i am also truly happy that these songs were born and even happier they decided to share themselves.

i hope you enjoy listening to them.

love,
philip

about

Philip Weinrobe Brooklyn, New York

philip lives in brooklyn. mostly, he spends his time making records with/for other artists.

sometimes, he finds the time to make music with/for himself.

when that happens, he usually keeps the music tucked away on a hard drive in the top right drawer of the dresser by the foot of his bed. on rare occasion, the songs force themselves out into the wild.

if that happens, you'll find them here.
